This chop was purchased from the estate of a collector in central Massachusetts which included a phenomenal array of fine figurines and animal-related art and objects from around the world
it has the appearance of an arts and crafts piece
Just a gorgeous silhouette and a handy size--perfect in the bathroom or on the desk holding little things
All the other parts are here (excepting a tassel which would once have hung from his fez) and he'll slide along the string if actively pulled
perhaps it was once part of something larger—I am not sure
Antique Black Lacquer Shoe Shaped Snuff Box with Mother of Pearl Inlay curated textiles This chop was purchased fromThis lovely little lacquered papier mache snuff box, with mother of pearl inlay at the center of the lid and for the buttons of the shoe, and a hinged lid, dates to the second half of the 19th century and I believe is most likely British, though possibly French.
